Back again

Back in Dundee for another year of productive study and so forth.
I think I'm too anti social for the student life. The whole 'party till you drop' thing does nothing for me.
But, it's a new course, and I'm living in a lovely new flat with people I actually know, so the whole thing could be so much worse. I'm still getting used to the damn microwave, though. Bloody thing raised a blister on the back of my finger because I didn't realise how hot the container would get. It's my own stupid fault, I truly am a brain donor when it comes to anything more technological than a ring pull.

August was the wettest on record for England, and it looks like September's shaping up to be the same. It's abit worrying, actually. At home, we're high enough up to avoid any floding, but I know people who live nearer the river who'll be affected pretty badly.

On a brighter note, I finally have ideas and inspiration. Dark Knight couldn't have come at a better time- most of what I'm drawing at the moment is related to Batman. Yes, everyone else is doing it too, but what does that matter? I'm drawing again, and that's the best thing ever. Still rusty, but getting there. Soon as I locate a scanner, I'll start updating and posting to dev art. Provided my finger doesn't fall off, and I'm not swept away by flood water in the meantime.

My Mum is not allowed to drink

Because it clearly upsets her mental balance. Why else was she singing a song from Oklahoma? Not that there's anything wrong with that per se, but she was replacing character names with those of Batman and the Joker, so we ended up with

Territ'ry folk should all get along
Territ'ry folk should all be pals
Batman dance with the Joker's daughter
Joker dance with the Batman's gals.

LOL WUT, MOTHER?

And the phrase 'Joker's daughter' just conjured up a few bad fics I've read recently, with those very words featured prominantly in what passes for a plot.
I will stay out of Batfic.

Dark Knight Activity books!
I think I love the film industry. I don't suppose it ever crossed their minds that a film full of violence, razor blades and death might not be appropiate for childrens colouring and activity books. But I just came across these on Amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Batman-Knight-Bumper-Colouring-Activity/dp/0007277261/ref=sr_1_92?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1220564714&sr=1-92
Admittedly they'll have been heavily sanitised, but what's the point? Think of the activities you could have in the uncensored version...
'You too can learn how to make a pencil disappear!'
'Kids, can you name all the charred muscles exposed in the burnt side of Harvey Dent's face?'
And so on.
I also fail to see how colouring in pictures will stop the Joker 'spreading his evil web over Gotham', but that's what the synopsis on Amazon says. So stay inside the lines, kids, or the world ends.
No pressure!
The sad thing is, of course, that I really want one.

Oh look, an entry

Well, my very first entry... let's see, do I have anything to say? *scrabbles around in brain for a while* Oh yes!

I AM AN ACTOR!!!!!

Sort of. Just recieved word from the director of LIP (Life In Production) theatre group, that I have been given the part of Antonio in Twelfth Night. Dude. Brilliant, considering the audition involved reading the part of Albany from King Lear. Ne'er mind.

So, having briefly skimmed the text (the last time I read this play was for the dreaded SATs), it appears Antonios part goeth thusly:

ANTONIO: Oh, Sebastian, you rock. Allow me to follow you like a love lorn puppy.
SEBASTIAN: No. (Goes)
ANTONIO: Curses, for he goeth to the court of mine enemy Orsino. Ah, but I always was a sucker for a pretty face. (Follows)

Later:
SEBASTIAN: Stop following me.
ANTONIO: Nope. Here, have my purse, whilst I away to ye olde taverne. (Goes)
SEBASTIAN: Oh, goody, I can buy trinkets for whores.(Goes)

Later:
POLICEMAN: Stop, you're surrounded by armed barstards!
ANTONIO: It's a fair cop, guv. (To VIOLA, who is SEBASTIANS twin sister, conveniently disguised as a boy) Giz a purse!
VIOLA: Whut?
ANTONIO: Oh, I'm so betrayed! WOE!

And then all the mistaken identities get sorted out at the end, and everyone goes home happy. Nearly everyone.

And yes, I read with the mind of a slasher. It's sadly become an ingrained habit.

Please note: The above transcription is not remotely close to Shakespeare's original. Any resemblance to it is entirely accidental, I am so so sorry, Mr. S, please do not hurt me. Please. My wife is having a baby.
